Luminary Festival - Sep 6th 2025
Folk Star Academy is excited to perform at the Luminary Festival 2025, taking place on September 6th at Sunstone Park, Delta, BC. This end-of-summer celebration features free family entertainment, cultural performances, interactive displays, and a mainstage performance by The Exchange.
Namaste Canada - Sep 20th 2025
Folk Star Academy is proud to perform at Namaste Canada 2025, returning on September 20th at the Vancouver Art Gallery – North Plaza. Hosted by the Consulate General of India, this free cultural festival brings together dance, music, poetry, food, and visual arts to showcase the richness of India’s heritage.

Surrey Canada Day - July 1st 2025
Students of Folk Star Academy will be joining the grand Surrey Canada Day celebrations with dynamic cultural performances. They will bring the colors, energy, and spirit of our heritage to one of the most celebrated community events in Surrey, BC.
Delta Canada Day - July 1st 2025
Folk Star Academy students will light up the stage at Chalmers Park with a vibrant Bhangra performance. As part of the City of Delta’s grand celebrations, our students will bring high-energy moves and cultural pride to a day filled with parades, music, and fireworks.
Car Free Day Surrey - june 7th 2025
Students of Folk Star Academy were proud to perform at Surrey Canada Day, showcasing vibrant cultural talent on a grand stage in Surrey, BC. Our academy was honored to represent tradition and youthful energy at one of the province’s largest celebrations.
PARTY FOR THE PLANET - April 26th 2025
Folk Star Academy students were delighted to join the Party for the Planet celebrations, sharing the spirit of culture and community at this large-scale Earth Day event. Surrounded by wildlife encounters, conservation talks, and sustainable living showcases, our students’ performances added color and energy to this meaningful celebration.
Surrey Fusion Festival 2025 - July 20th 2025
Folk Star Academy students will be performing at the vibrant Surrey Fusion Festival 2025, one of the largest multicultural celebrations in British Columbia. With food, music, dance, and traditions from around the world, our students will proudly showcase Bhangra on the multicultural stage.
From live contests and cultural showcases to star performances by Miss Pooja and Geeta Zaildar, this free-entry festival promises two full days of excitement, family fun, and cultural pride—and we’re honored to be part of it.
2024
Inter Cultural Events hosted by Richard Bullpitt Elementary School Langley
-Two of our volunteers went to represent Punjabi and Indian culture at Richard Bullpitt Elementary School’s Intercultural event. We showcased a short dance segment for the students, and showed them various different traditional musical instruments, their uses, and why we do our dance.
Charity Gala by Ridge Meadows South Asian Cultural Society Maple Ridge
-As an effort to show our support for the Ridge Meadows South Asian Cultural Society, with whom we have collaborated with before, we did a Bhangra performance to showcase Punjabi culture as a part of South Asian Culture.
Surrey Steps up hosted by Surrey School District Board
–The annual 2024 showcase was held on March 15th from 5–9pm at Surrey City Hall. During this showcase, groups who have ‘stepped up’ in their communities were able to share what great things they are doing. Members of our senior girls team set up a display of Punjabi culture via a stall at which we had informational cards and models of traditional Punjabi instruments and tools, and we had a performance segment where we displayed singing and Bhangra
Vaisakhi Celebrations hosted by Guru Angad Dev Elementary School
-At Mirage Banquet Hall, our senior girls’ teams did two performances for G.A.D Elementary School’s staff to celebrate the Punjabi Holiday of Vaisakhi through dance.
Vaisakhi celebrations hosted by Chenchenstway Care Home Burnaby
-Members of our senior girl’s team went to the Chenchestway Care home in Burnaby for Vaisakhi to display a Bhangra performance for the staff and patients in an effort to embrace Punjabi culture.
Vancouver Celebrates Dance hosted by Shiamak Vancouver
– Folk Star Arts Academy’s Senior Girls Team collaborated with Shiamak Vancouver to celebrate traditional Indian dance alongside the Vancouver community, promoting cultural diversity and unity.
Surrey Spark Stages hosted by the City Of Surrey
-Folk Star Arts Academy participated in the two-day Surrey SPARK Stages event, where children discovered a love for the performing arts and adults were pleasantly surprised by how much fun they had. We proudly showcased the talents of our younger students, highlighting their skills and enthusiasm in a vibrant and engaging setting.
Ted x Grandview Heights Ted Talk hosted by Ted Talks
-At the TEDx Grandview Heights event, our very own Bhangra instructor, Komal Sandhu, delivered an inspiring TED Talk. She explored the richness of Punjabi heritage, shared how Bhangra has enabled her to connect with her cultural roots, and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in preserving and passing down our traditions.

Delta Canada Day Parade hosted by the City of Delta
-Folk Star Arts Academy participated in the Delta Canada Day Parade, hosted by the City of Delta. We showcased a vibrant Bhangra performance, played lively Punjabi music, and handed out candies to the parade-goers, celebrating Canadian multiculturalism and sharing Punjabi culture with the community.
Delta Canada Day Booth hosted by the City of Delta
-At the Delta Canada Day Booth, hosted by the City of Delta, Folk Star Arts Academy provided an engaging showcase of traditional Punjabi elements. We introduced kids to the manja, a traditional seating or bedding platform; the charka, a spinning wheel used to make threads from cotton; and the charki, a mill used for grinding wheat into flour. This hands-on experience allowed children to learn about and connect with aspects of Punjabi heritage.
Pan American Championship Field Hockey Games hosted by Panam Hockey
-At the Pan American Games, Folk Star Arts Academy provided a vibrant cultural performance. We showcased Bhangra to add a celebratory touch to the event, highlighting Punjabi culture and engaging with the attendees in a festive atmosphere.
Fiji Festival hosted by Bulal Fiji Association of BC
-The Fijian community invited Folk Star Arts Academy to share its culture once more through Bhangra and Giddha performances.
Fusion Festival hosted by City of Surrey
-Folk Star Arts Academy participated in the Fusion Festival, hosted by the City of Surrey. We celebrated cultural diversity through a vibrant Bhangra performance and conducted an interactive workshop, allowing participants to engage directly with the rich traditions of Punjabi culture and experience the energy of Bhangra firsthand.
4th Annual Soccer Tournament hosted by Sporting Club Kerala
-A group of 30 kids from Folk Star Arts Academy performed at the 4th Annual Soccer Tournament, hosted by Sporting Club Kerala. Their lively Bhangra performance added a vibrant touch of Punjabi culture to the event, engaging the sports community and showcasing the talents of our young performers.
New West After School Program hosted by Westminster Children's After School Society
-At the New West After School Program, we performed an exciting Bhangra showcase and conducted an engaging Bhangra workshop for the kids. This event allowed the children to experience Punjabi culture firsthand and learn the energetic dance form
Langley Global Fest hosted by Langley Community Services Society
-Langley Global Fest happened on August 25 and promised cultural performances, food vendors, and community organisation showcases, exemplifying Folk Star Arts Academy’s dedication to community engagement and cultural celebration.
White Rock Culture Crawl- 2024 hosted by the City of White Rock
– For the first time this year, Folk Star Arts Academy participated in the White Rock Culture Crawl on October 6 2024. We have showcased many different performances by multiple teams and also hosting several workshops for the public to enjoy.
MegaFest- 2024
– MegaFest is an indoor trade show happening in Surrey. This year Folk Star Arts Academy team will be going to perform.

Vancouver Celebrates Dance hosted by Shiamak Vancouver
– Folk Star Arts Academy’s Senior Girls Team collaborated with Shiamak Vancouver to celebrate traditional Indian dance alongside the Vancouver community, promoting cultural diversity and unity.
South Asian Family Festival in PNE hosted by SAFF Organization
The academy’s Senior Girls, Junior Girls, Beginner, Co-Ed, and dhol teams participated in this family-friendly event, celebrating Indian and Punjabi culture through live dance, art, music, and more.
Experience India hosted by South Asian Student Club at SVC (Skagit Valley College) USA
SVC invited us to Experience India, Folk Star Arts Academy’s Senior Girls Team showcased Punjabi traditions and culture, highlighting both traditional aspects and the preservation of Punjabi culture in North America. Folk Star Arts Academy engaged with SVC’s South Asian Student Club, promoting cultural exchange, and understanding through dance and art.

The Consulate General of India participated in the Victoria Drive Business Improvement Association’s annual Summer Festival, promoting Incredible India, and fostering tourism partnerships while showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage.

-Our junior girls did a performance at the Sanjha Vehra Women’s Association Breast Cancer Fundraiser event to promote their endeavour and raise awareness for their cause.
Diwali Festival hosted by City of Langley Library
The City of Langley Library hosted a Diwali event where we were invited to showcase a Bhangra performance to enrich the experience and display aspects of Punjabi culture through dance for the traditional Indian holiday.
Annual Christmas Party hosted by Panthers Field Hockey Club Surrey BC
To show support for the Panthers Field Hockey Club, our Senior Girls team displayed both Bhangra and Luddi to brighten the atmosphere and bring some Christmas cheer!

Canada Day Performance hosted by City of Maple Ridge
– Invited by the Maple Ridge community, Folk Star Arts Academy’s Junior Girls team delivered a charismatic and energetic performance to celebrate Canada’s multicultural identity, showcasing the rich Punjabi culture within the community.
Family Day Parade hosted by City of Delta
– On Family Day, Folk Star Arts Academy participated in the Delta city parade with its own float, featuring Bhangra and Giddha performances by the Co-Ed and Senior Girls teams, fostering a sense of community spirit.

-Similar to the Delta Family Day Parade, Folk Star Arts Academy was invited to perform at the Pitt Meadows Day Parade, representing the Punjabi community through the outstanding performance by the Senior Girls team.

– The academy proudly showcased Punjabi culture and traditions during India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations organised by the Consulate General of India in Vancouver, demonstrating the rich heritage from which they hail.
CIBC Run in South Surrey hosted by Canadian Cancer Society
– Folk Star Arts Academy’s Senior Girls Team participated in the CIBC Run in South Surrey, contributing to a fundraiser for cancer research while spreading cultural awareness and unity within the community.

– This event, organised by CU Alumni Association, brought together esteemed alumni to share their cherished experiences from their time at CU. It was a heartwarming and emotional open-mic session for alumni and dignitaries alike, signifying the start of a new chapter for Chandigarh University.

Colours Of Art & World Folk League 2020
Folk Star Arts Academy Events: During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the academy hosted online events like “Colors of Art 2020” and “World Folk League 2020,” showcasing artists from around the world and spreading knowledge of diverse traditions, cultures, and values.
