Overview of Our Society

Folk Star Arts Academy Society (FSAAS) is a registered not-for-profit society, founded in September 2019, and a proud member of CID – The International Dance Council since 2021 and a member of The Arts Council of Surrey since 2023. Created by a collective of talented and experienced arts enthusiasts, the society is committed to promoting, preserving, performing, and presenting Punjabi culture while building bridges between communities through the arts.

Core Values

  • Equality – Equal opportunities for individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, and communities.
  • Diversity – Preserving authentic Punjabi traditions while engaging with experienced and educated artists.
  • Inclusiveness – Welcoming all performers and creators of art.
  • Collaboration – Working together with artists and organizations from multiple cultural backgrounds.
  • Courage – Embracing and celebrating our cultural roots with pride.

These values guide our work to both preserve Punjabi folk traditions and encourage cross-cultural exchange, showcasing and celebrating diverse cultures in every event we present.

Our Approach

FSAAS is enriched by individuals with exceptional talents who joyfully share their knowledge of Punjabi language, traditions, and culture, especially with youth born and raised in North America. We perform across the continent, creating opportunities for members to:

  • Gain exposure through major cultural events.
  • Learn from a diverse and talented peer group.
  • Connect with other exceptional teams and artists.

We instill team spirit and collaborative values in our members, qualities that strengthen both artistic performance and everyday life.

Artistic Scope

Art, to us, is limitless. Our work spans a wide range of Punjabi art forms, including:

  • Bhangra and Bhangra Fusion with other dance genres.
  • Acting and theatrical performance.
  • Visual arts such as painting.
  • Singing and musical performance.
  • Folk instruments and Punjabi language programs.

Impact and Reach

At Folk Star Arts Academy, our influence extends well beyond dance training, impacting both our students and the broader community.

  • Community Impact – We have witnessed countless success stories where our students thrive not only as dancers but also as individuals, developing cooperation, commitment, discipline, and self-expression. Our programs are open to all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, ensuring that dance remains an inclusive and welcoming art form. Through outreach programs, workshops, and community performances, we bring the joy of dance to diverse audiences, building community bonds and fostering appreciation for the arts.
  • Audience Impact – Our performances are more than technical displays, they are expressions of artistry and emotion that deeply connect with audiences. Each show has the power to inspire joy, reflection, and cultural appreciation, transcending linguistic and cultural barriers to create human connections.

For parents, seeing their children perform is a source of immense pride, while supporters of the arts experience cultural enrichment and an understanding of dance’s transformative potential. This shared experience strengthens the relationship between our academy, our students, and our community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of our society, contributing their time, energy, and creativity to help us succeed. We are committed to recruiting, motivating, and recognizing their invaluable contributions.

How We Recruit Volunteers:

  • Community Partnerships – We have strong relationships with institutions such as Guru Angad Dev Elementary School. We assist with their school events, and in return, their students gain volunteer opportunities with us.
  • Word of Mouth – Our current volunteers often recommend friends and family who share our passion for the arts.
  • Events and Outreach – We promote volunteer opportunities at local community events and fairs, and we identify students with strong leadership skills in our classes for volunteer positions.

Volunteer Recognition
We value our volunteers’ dedication and ensure their efforts are celebrated. Each year, during our annual Folklore Festival, we publicly acknowledge their contributions and present Certificates of Appreciation, showing our gratitude for their hard work and commitment.
